When I was working a 9-5 job (more like 7-9 this time of year, right public accounting friends?) I would always say that Tuesday was the hardest day of the week. Monday’s are hard because you are having to wake up early after a weekend of sleeping in, but you at least have the hopeful thought of starting the week anew. Wednesday’s are nice because you realize you made it to the middle of the week and things tend to get easier from there. Thursday’s are wonderful because you realize you are one day away from the weekend. Friday’s are awesome because, well, they’re Friday. That just leaves Tuesday…that awkward in between day where there isn’t much to look forward to except a nice long day of getting stuff done. For some reason, most of my weekly meetings ended up being on Tuesday’s which made for an exceptionally chaotic and busy day.
Working from home and being primarily a stay-at-home mom completely changed that for me because it doesn’t matter what day of the week it is, our girls consistently get up early and require our attention all day, er’y day. It’s not a bad thing, just a different lifestyle. With that being said, today sure felt like a Tuesday (as evidenced by the fact that this post is going out much later than planned).
Here’s the deal – it does not matter if you’re a 9-5er, a part-timer, or something else, it’s that time of year where we all have our noses to the grindstone working hard towards whatever goals we are hoping to achieve for the month.
I recently heard a song on the radio that made me stop for a moment and just listen. I have a special place in my heart for Casting Crowns and realizing this song was one of theirs made me love them even more. It is beautifully written and sung so peacefully, and is a wonderful reminder that sometimes we try to do too much all on our own. I think it is human nature to just keep pushing forward and feeling like we have to do it all on our own without any help. This song reminds us to take a minute, a moment, to stop fighting and let God take over. To just be held.
Sharing it with you today, in case you need to hear the words on this Tuesday. Or this week. Or this month.
Just Be Held (Casting Crowns)
Hold it all together
Everybody needs you strong
But life hits you out of nowhere
And barely leaves you holding on
And when you’re tired of fighting
Chained by your control
There’s freedom in surrender
Lay it down and let it go
So when you’re on your knees and answers seem so far away
You’re not alone, stop holding on and just be held
Your world’s not falling apart, it’s falling into place
I’m on the throne, stop holding on and just be held
Just be held, just be held
If your eyes are on the storm
You’ll wonder if I love you still
But if your eyes are on the cross
You’ll know I always have and I always will
And not a tear is wasted
In time, you’ll understand
I’m painting beauty with the ashes
Your life is in My hands
Lift your hands, lift your eyes
In the storm is where you’ll find Me
And where you are, I’ll hold your heart
I’ll hold your heart
Come to Me, find your rest
In the arms of the God who won’t let go
Know you are loved,
