Hi there! I am so happy to see you here. I thought it might be fun to share a little bit more about myself. Pretend we’re sitting across from each other with our favorite drinks in hand…coffee, tea, wine, whatevs. Ready? Okay, here we go:
My name is Katie and I am the oldest of three girls. I’m lucky to be able to say my sisters are two of my best friends. They also keep me young…I’m in partial denial as I type this, but I am on the flip side of 25 and realized recently I am a heck of a lot closer to 30 than I am 20. So that’s fun.
I have been married to my best friend for five years but we’ve been together since just after our high school graduation TEN years ago. We have two daughters, the youngest who just joined the world in August 2015. You can read all about that adventurous birth story HERE.
I graduated from college with a bachelor’s and master’s in accounting. For the first four years after graduation I worked my tail off at one of the Big Four public accounting firms. The people there were very good to me but my heart was always pining for something more. Having a baby forced me to re-prioritize and made me realize pretty quick that I would be much happier raising her at home and pursuing my dream of being a photographer than having friends and family bear that responsibility while I was doing something that I didn’t love anyway.
The transition wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. It was pretty tough at times, actually, but that is a story for another day.
Regardless, it was the best decision I ever made. I wouldn’t trade the time I have had with B for anything, and am loving life as a photographer. You can check out my work here.
I have had a few people ask why I wanted to start a blog when I technically already have one linked to my photography site. My answer is three-fold:
1) I love connecting with people but sometimes (embarrassingly) I find I express myself better in writing than I do in person. I have a lot more I’d love to talk about that doesn’t necessarily fit in the photography space. Having a separate blog gives us the chance to connect on a whole other level…like deep. Seriously though, you’ll find that I write like I would if I were emailing my closest friends: bad grammar, caps and all.
2) It’s no secret, being a mom is the most rewarding and isolating jobs you could ever have. And frankly, the career I had before becoming a mom was similar in that way. I know I am not alone in these feelings and want to reach out through the interwebs to anyone who might relate in the slightest and give them a great big HUG! And maybe something to laugh about.
3) Um, my sister-in-law is awesome. She’s a fabulous mom and human being and how could you not want to collaborate with someone like her on a project like this? No brainer.
There you have it, lovely. My life in a sort-of-but-not-really-concise nutshell. Thanks for reading! I’d love to hear more about you…make sure you connect with us so we can be friends!
